Patterson, Stanislaus County
Thomas Patterson laid out the town that bears his family name in 1909, with a central circle and streets radiating outward like the spokes of a wheel, a plan inspired by Washington and Paris. Rows of palms and eucalyptus still line the main avenues. Patterson calls itself the Apricot Capital of the World and has held an Apricot Fiesta since 1971.
